Behind Closed Doors was conceived & written by our Co-Artistic Director, Sabina Netherclift and fellow actor Benedict Sandiford during lockdown #1, and presented either side of lockdown #2 to live audiences. This show was an attempt to make sense of the unique times we are living through. It was made for small audiences of 20 per show who watched in individual covid secure booths.

Behind Closed Doors spans centuries to explore stories of isolation and separation. From the anchorite Julian of Norwich to round-the-world mariner Ellen MacArthur to a hillwalking tour guide to the priest of Plague village Eyam, our history is liberally seasoned with times where we’ve been distanced from each other, whether by choice or necessity.

Weaving these famous figures with everyday folk, like an oil rig worker or a gardener taking care of the plants at The Eden Project, this show illuminates how often we’ve been here before and is now available as a digital stream.
